2013 Kids Gardening Program Schedule
Kids Garden Summer Programs at Sacajawea Center Salmon Idaho
In the Garden 2013
Kids ages 5 to 12 will have lots of fun learning all about gardening and natural history in this popular summer program. This Kids Gardening Program is held at the Sacajawea Heritage Gardens every other Friday from 9 am till noon beginning on June 7th and ending September 13th.

A $10 registration fee admits kids to all of the programs. Scholarship and/or parent volunteer time in lieu of fee.
The Heritage Garden began as a pioneer effort on part of dedicated volunteers. The garden was originally designed as a living history project where seeds of the past and present were combined to create food for the community and stunning native flower displays.  Though Sacajawea’s people, the Shoshones, were not an agricultural nation, the settlers that followed Lewis and Clark into this valley relied on gardens for survival. In 1857, Mormon missionaries came from Utah to the Lemhi Valley and built irrigation ditches to water their crops. After gold was discovered at Leesburg in 1866, enterprising gardeners earned a living by supplying miners at the high-elevation mine with fresh produce.

Today’s Heritage Community Garden is run through a partnership with the Salmon Valley Stewardship and the Youth Employment Project.

Seasonal produce will be for sale at the Farmer’s Market as well at the Garden Entrance.  Stop by and pick up something fresh and tour these beautiful gardens!
