Agaidika Heritage Days – August 18 & 19, 2017!
Each year Heritage Day looks a little different but we are always celebrating the same thing. In August 1805 the Lewis and Clark Expedition entered Lemhi County. Sacajawea recognized members of her tribe in the local band of Agaidika Shoshone-Bannock and it was an emotional reunion. The Agaidika assisted the Expedition by some of their horses for the next leg of the journey and Toby, an Agaidika, agreed to take the group over Lolo Pass.
Each August we celebrate these events at the Sacajawea Center in conjunction with the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe’s annual Agaidika Gathering. During this time you can visit or participate in the 1805 Living Experience, interpretive talks and displays, frontier demonstrations (spinning and weaving wool, wagon rides, wilderness travel demonstrations to name a few), youth activities and more. The event culminates with a presentation of singing, drumming, and dancing by the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe. The Tribe also holds their annual, 13-mile walk/run from Tendoy to the top Lemhi Pass during this event.
